HOME

REVIT - SKETCHUP - TWINMOTION

DESIGN INTENT

I intend to create a space for students who have had to move away from home in order to study.

WHAT IS HOME?

Home is an immersive cafe designed to create a comfortable and friendly environment for South Bank students to escape to. With the aim of providing a safe space and encouraging a sense of community on campus, Home is the perfect place for students to gather with their friends when they’re missing home. Home is filled with warm tones and colourful fabrics that provide a sense of nostalgia that you can only find in lived-in, generational homes, rather than following the typical cafe structure. Home encourages customers to make themselves comfortable. Upon entering, they are guided to the Kitchen Island where they can make their own toasted sandwiches and order a coffee, before finding a place to sit and chat with friends.

DEVELOPMENT

In the initial stages of development, Home was much more like a typical cafe with booths acting as ‘living rooms’. In order to make the space feel more immersive, I divided the space into separate rooms for students to get away with their friends. These rooms include a traditional western living room, a conversation pit, a ‘cubbyhouse’ style room, a dining room and the kitchen.  The outdoor dining area consists of a range of eating spaces divided by garden hedges.

The design consists primarily of seating areas for groups, designed to enhance the community atmosphere and encourage communication.
